PEOPLE, Page 103Also-RanBy J.D. Reed/Reported by Wendy Cole
When the new record book comes out in January, Ben Johnson,
who lost his 1988 Olympic gold medal for using anabolic steroids,
will not be listed as the world's fastest human. Last week
authorities stripped the Canadian runner of his record times in
three earlier events after he admitted using the drug since 1981.
He is, however, still a contender. Johnson, says his attorney
Edward Futerman, wants to "run again and win clean." For now, his
100-meter-dash crown goes to Carl Lewis.
